Google Calendar Under Fire After Holiday List From Holiday List

Google Calendar has disappointed some users after launching a number of occasions from its holiday list, Pride Month, Black History Month, Indigenous Peoples Month, Jewish Heritage, Holocaust Remembrance Day, and Hispanic Heritage.

The removal was shown in an article through a Google product rated and corroborated through a Google spokesperson. The holidays were removed from the calendar in mid-2024.

In A To the Verge, Google spokeswoman Madison Cushman Veld explained that the calendar made the resolution to scrub a litany of the app’s holidays for practical reasons.

“For more than a decade, we’ve worked with timeanddate. com to display holidays and national observances on Google’s calendar,” Veld said. “A few years ago, the calendar team began manually adding a wider set of cultural moments into a giant number of countries around the world. “

“We were given feedback that other occasions and countries were missing, and holding many moments manually and around the Global was not scalable or sustainable,” he continued. Holidays and national observances timeandddate. com around the global, while allowing users to manually upload other vital moments. “

The news comes at a time when diversity, equity, and inclusion projects (DEI) in Big Tech are shrinking. Meta, Amazon, Intel, and PayPal have flipped DEI systems aimed at expanding diversity hiring goals.

It turns out that some of those tweaks are now starting to creep into product decisions, however, we don’t see if Google’s calendar is a harbinger of a bigger trend to follow or just an outlier.
