(RTTNews) – Google will now use Android phones to trip on earthquakes and alert users.
The first component of this formula will be implemented on Tuesday. Android phones running the 5.0 and above operational formula are met with a safe seismic wave activity and report it to Google. Google will then use this knowledge to search for effects and notify Android users in California.
Google will use the phone’s built-in accelerometers, which direct the compass and star-observation apps. Google worked with the U.S. Geological Survey and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to send ShakeAlert-powered seismic alerts to Android devices in California.
Google will collect information from all Android phones around the world; However, only California users will receive notifications on their phones starting Tuesday.
Android users will see the red earthquake alert and the suggestion to “drop and hold” once Google detects an earthquake.
