A joint venture of Google and MIT seeks to help educators as well as their students’ academic success. The collaboration provides a new AI lesson for insightful educators evolved through the Big Tech Company initiative and MIT’s Guilty AI for Empowerment and Education (ALING) initiative.
The course is designed to help middle and high school teachers learn how to use generative AI devices to personalize instruction, expand artistic courses, and save time on administrative tasks. To learn more about the courses, I turned to Lisa Gevelber, founder of Grows with Google, and Cynthia Breazeal, director of growth at MIT, who led this project.
The online course is self-paced and takes about two hours. The teachers who complete the program will earn a certificate that can be used for professional development credit.
The goal is to empower educators to leverage generative AI tools to enhance their teaching practices and student learning, while promoting responsible and ethical use of the technology. The course aims to make AI training more accessible for teachers, as some may lack confidence in using AI tools and desire additional AI-specific professional development resources.
Teachers who complete the course will earn a certificate that can be used for professional development credit in their school districts.
“Google wants to ensure every educator can take advantage of the opportunities created by AI,” said Gevelber. “AI tools can help teachers easily adapt lessons and materials to different learning styles and levels, and allow them to be more efficient at everyday administrative tasks. This gives educators time back to invest in themselves and their students.”
