Some might call it a privacy boost, but I’m going to stick with it being a new security protection as that’s precisely what this latest update from google provides for billions of Android users. Here’s what you need to know about the unknown tracker alert to protect you from stranger danger and abusive stalking.
Google said, in a Dec. 11 post, that helping Android users — all 3 billion of them — avoid unwanted Bluetooth tracking is a security priority and announced two new features that will do just that.
While Android’s unknown tracking alert formula is rarely very new, Google’s most recent update expands on the coverage presented in an exclusive and very welcome way. These alerts automatically notify the user if they are being tracked through an unknown or unknown Bluetooth tracker moving with them. “As part of our ongoing commitment to security,” Google said, “we’ve made technological innovations to send alerts faster and more frequently. “This is the case with the new “Temporarily suspend location” feature. This means that users can now, as the box is said to win, temporarily pause location updates from their Android phone to prevent that device’s location from being used through an as-yet-unknown detected beacon. The location update pause lasts for 24 hours, which deserves to be enough to at least load a layer of load control for the user to allow you to physically locate and disable the beacon in question.
The new update to the anti-tracking protections available to Android users comes to the Find Nearby function. “If you receive an unknown tracking alert,” Google said, “you can now use the Find Nearby feature to identify the location of the tag. ” This update means that the Android smartphone or tablet will query the user for the exact location of the tracking tag and, when used in conjunction with the new time-paused location feature, will help disable those physical security threats more effective and efficient. “Your protection is our priority,” Google said, “so we continually receive better unknown tracking alerts to help you stay ahead of unwanted trackers. “
