Apple’s new iPhone SE 4 is expected to arrive this March, and now new images posted by Sonny Dickson on X give us a first look at what’s coming.
Sonny Dickson has fictional models for new iPhones that tend to be pretty accurate to what Apple ends up releasing.
Now, he has shared the photographs above that give a first look at the iPhone SE 4.
We can extract some clues about the new iPhone from those images.
First of all, it will be available in two colors: black and white.
The current iPhone SE comes in two similar shades—Midnight and Starlight—but also a third option: (PRODUCT)RED. It seems Apple may drop the red option with its new model.
Another key detail revealed through those photos is the larger camera bump. Although the iPhone SE 4 will have a single rear camera, it is much larger than the current SE.
That’s because Apple is expected to give the SE 4 the same main camera found on the iPhone 15 (or even the iPhone 16).
Finally, the photo of the new SE four shows a premium-looking aluminum frame.
Ultimately, the new frame is consistent with the design of the iPhone 14, as is much of the design of the new operating system, but it is different from the existing SE, leading to more apparent “fiscal model” vibes.
The premium finish of the aluminum frame, combined with the neutral black and white color options, makes this model resemble Apple’s Pro-class iPhones.
I’d possibly be reading too much about this, but seeing the fictional styling of the iPhone SE four makes me think that the recent rumors about the name of the SE turn out to be correct.
Earlier this month, a leaker claimed the new SE would actually be branded iPhone 16E.
I’m pretty sure this is gonna be a massive hit. It has pretty much everything most people could want. The only thing that will be a deal breaker to some is camera. I make horrible photos even with 12 Pro Max (when you don’t have eye for it, no camera helps), so I don’t care and I might switch to 16E this year.
As for equipment, it will be more than enough for me. As for the design, it is decent. If the newer Pro models still used stainless metal, I’d be tempted to wait for the 17 Pro Max, but the titanium bezels seem so reasonable to me that the aluminum doesn’t make any difference in terms of design to me, it looks pretty good. Same, economical. I hope they return to metal one day.
As I wrote in this week’s Rumor Replay column, my first reaction was to be skeptical of the rumor. But the number of iPhone 16-level features that come in the new SE got me thinking.
Now, seeing those photos makes me wonder if the iPhone 16E call could turn out to be true. This device doesn’t scream “budget model” at all, so if Apple wanted to, they could just call it the iPhone 16E and even remain the current SE at a lower price.
Either way, those questions will soon be answered.
