Fortnite has now been removed from the Google Play Store after it was removed from Apple’s iOS App Store overnight.
Google cited the same challenge with Fortnite as Apple, as it recently introduced a new payment formula that bypasses Google’s paid design and allows users to pay Epic for V-Bucks in the game. Epic offers users a 20% reduction in transactions, but at the same time saves all profits after avoiding the 30% reduction that Google (and Apple) would receive.
“The open Android ecosystem allows developers to distribute apps across multiple app stores. For game developers who choose to use the Play Store, we have consistent policies that are fair to developers and ensure store security for users,” Google said on an Edge.
“Although Fortnite is available on Android, we can no longer do so on Play because it violates our policies. However, we looked at the opportunity to continue our discussions with Epic and bring Fortnite back to Google Play.”
Epic has still released a parody video criticizing Google, and we are aware of any demands.
Fortnite is available lately on Windows PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch; it can still be played on iOS and Android devices on which the game has already been installed.
