Follow Elon Musk on this excursion to SpaceX’s massive “Mechazilla” tower

Tim Dodd of YouTube account Everyday Astronaut has uploaded a continuation of his excursion to Starbase with Elon Musk.

Musk accompanied Dodd on an excursion to SpaceX’s launch site in South Texas, known as Starbase. In the first part of his excursion, Musk takes him through the High Bay, where Starship prototypes are assembled, and recently through MegaBay.

In the most recent video, Dodd and Musk continue their way through the facility and run SpaceX’s orbital release tower, also known as Mechazilla. The tower will release and land the Starship spacecraft, which SpaceX plans to send to Mars, and is designed to release and catch the spacecraft with two large arms. The tower is 143 meters (469 feet) high, about 30. 4 meters (100 feet) taller than the Statue of Liberty.

“Ouais. Je, it’s pretty crazy. I mean, there’s a custom-made tower with arms designed to catch the largest, heaviest flying object ever created and pull it out of the air,” Musk told Dodd.

“It’s crazy. I mean the shipment looks small from here. . . We deserve to like hang gliding and jumping or something. That would be good,” Musk joked after the couple headed to the most sensible thing about the tower.
