MLS is Fitogether’s real-time kinematics and sensor fusion generation as a component of its nine-month program.
Last week, next to Pitch 1 on the IMG Academy campus, the Fitogether company’s stand, with portable GPS, was flanked by a series of posters touting its number one accuracy in FIFA testing for five consecutive years, its direct transmission of knowledge from field to field. cloud and the slogan “Don’t settle for flat,” referring to its 3D precision tracking.
This was part of the Adidas Generation Cup, where participants from the MLS Innovation Lab were invited to showcase their products. Orlando City B and Inter Miami II players also used Fitogether devices in their MLS Next Pro game.
This is a vital milestone for Korea-based Fitogether as it tries to gain market share in the United States. Its main access to date has been through a partnership with Kinexon. Although LPS (Local Positioning System) devices for indoor sports are widely used, especially in the NBA, the company partnered with Fitogether to use the latter’s GPS hardware for sports, while then overlaying its software analysis.
Fitogether achieves FIFA’s highest accuracy and preferred supplier prestige through two techniques. One is sensor fusion, which leverages inertial measurement assemblies (IMUs), i. e. , accelerometer and gyroscope, to fill in gaps in the typical GPS sampling rate of 10 times per second. The other is called real-time kinematics and uses a desktop anchor that collects data at a constant frequency.
“Normal GPS responses offer a maximum accuracy of two to three meters, while we can only achieve an accuracy of two to three centimeters,” said Jinsung Yoon, co-founder and CEO of Fitogether. “We get knowledge of three-dimensional tracking at the centimeter level, at 10 hertz, and then interpolate those deviations with the accelerometers and the gyroscope so you can see the angles and the rotation. This is our greatest asset.
This generation of ultra-precision is what led Kinexon to integrate the hardware, helping to “provide exceptional knowledge quality, unmatched capabilities, and highly automated processing to streamline training staff responsibilities,” wrote Maximilian Schmidt, co-founder and CEO of Kinexon. Sports. email. Users include several teams from the Bundesliga, NCAA football, and the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.
Outside of North America, Fitogether’s biggest success is in Korea, where it is an official partner of the K-League and offers its generation at all levels, from elite to youth. Ramm Mylvaganam, non-executive director of Fitogether, whose storied career in the sports generation began as founder and CEO of the original optical tracking company ProZone, before joining the founding groups of the Apollo and AI Abacus athlete control formula, is also helping the company succeed in new markets. A football research company.
Fitogether also syncs with camera formulas to automate player identification, simplifying a tedious manual task and creating an opportunity for tactical research and fan engagement. This hybrid formula has earned FIFA certification as the first player tracker built into a single camera.
Yoon noted that the creation of such data-driven content for the audience is in the hands of major sports leagues, which leverage the company’s tracking systems (such as Hawk-Eye and Second Spectrum).
“There are wonderful demands for greater knowledge for video content,” Yoon said. “But because of the load of the formula and the structure of the paint, those [technologies] only run through the league. But what we can offer is our infrastructure-controlled through the club, so we can help clubs create their own content and then dig deep with their own enthusiasts with the knowledge. “
Tracking athlete functionality is lately the number one focus of MLS, although other use cases can be imagined in the future. As for Fitogether’s initial inclusion in the innovation lab, Chris Schlosser, MLS’s senior vice president of emerging business, was positive about its functionality. compared to what the League’s constituents already use.
“We think it’s a company in Asia that’s doing some literally engaging things, but we need to put it in an MLS environment, do our own validation and testing of their knowledge, and bring in our training team to take a look at the knowledge. Compared to their existing formulas,” Schlosser said. “And that now provides us with a nine-month roadmap to literally take inventory and perceive if your formula literally differs from the formulas that exist today?
“If it turns out that we have very low latency and very accurate data, then of course we’re going to have to find tactics to work with them. “
