NEW YORK – Walmart is launching a new subscription that expects it to compete with Amazon Prime.
Called Walmart, it will charge $98 a year, or $12.95 according to the month, and will offer members same-day delivery of 160,000 items, a fuel reduction at some gas stations and the ability to register at Walmart outlets without waiting.a record.
Walmart has a long way to go to catch up with Amazon Prime.Launched in 2005, Prime has more than 150 million international members who pay $119 a year, or $12.99 a month, for faster shipping and other benefits, such as amazon discounts.Whole Foods is compatible with the markets and its video streaming site.

Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s visitor manager, said she won’t launch Walmart to compete with other members who buy groceries.
“We’re launching it to satisfy our customers’ wishes,” he said.”And it was designed to make their busy lives easier.”
Walmart members will still have to spend at least $35 online to get free shipments the same day. Items are delivered to stores, priced up to $9.95 for non-members. The 160,000 eligible parts come with groceries, toys, electronics and household items such as toilet paper and soap.
Members will get a reduction of up to five cents consistent with the gallon at Murphy fuel stations or 2,000 Walmart retail outlets with fuel pumps.The company said it is preparing to upload more gas station chains to its list.
In their stores, members have an app to scan parts while shopping and paying without having to prevent them in a box.
The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said Walmart would launch on September 15.
