FIFA will announce its host cities for the 2026 World Cup on June 16 with Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver, with all 3 Canadian features waiting to hear their names.
A total of 22 candidate cities have raised their hands to host matches of the expanded 48-team men’s tournament to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
While the number of host cities was initially set at 16, FIFA’s head of tournaments and events said the final number had not yet been set.
“We will conclude those stops and then make a decision on the appropriate maximum number we want to host the tournament,” Colin Smith said at a stopover in Toronto last November.
The announcement will be made at a press conference in New York.
The United States are Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington DC/Baltimore.
Mexico’s candidate cities are Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey.
“In accordance with the above steps in the variety procedure for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, any announcements will be made in the interest of football, taking into account the wishes of all stakeholders involved, as we aim to lay the foundations for the tournament. successfully delivered to all 3 countries,” Vancouver’s Victor Montagliani, who is also FIFA vice president and CONCACAF president, said in a statement.
“We can reiterate our gratitude to all the municipalities and the 3 member associations for their effort and determination in this process. “
FIFA decided north America’s bid as a joint host in June 2018, marking the first time 3 counties have combined to host a men’s soccer exhibition event.
The original plan called for Canada and Mexico to host 10 games with the other 60 in the United States, adding up to all from the quarterfinals.

Montreal surrendered last August after Quebec’s provincial government withdrew its support, leading to cost overruns that would have been difficult to justify to taxpayers. He replaced him in April via Vancouver, which made an initial offer in 2017 and then resigned in 2018, with Prime Minister John Horgan mentioning the unknown prices of hosting the event.

BMO Field will want to expand to FIFA’s minimum capacity of more than 40,000 seats. Toronto FC president Bill Manning said the plans had already been submitted as part of Toronto’s bidding process.
The Major League Soccer club is owned by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, owner of the Maple Leafs, Raptors, Argonauts and Marlies.
“The stadium will be temporarily expanded,” Manning said Friday. One of the things we will continue to look at as a business is the call for him to stay with him after the World Cup.
“Over the next five years, part of our plan is to expand TFC. And the arrival of the World Cup here is a big priority for us and the city. I just think it’s possibly not just in Toronto, but I think it will be transcendent for the game in Canada when we have the opportunity to welcome the most productive groups and players in the world. BMO Field will play a vital role in all of this.
The expansion would be at the northern and southern ends of the lakeside stadium. Temporary bleachers at BMO Field allowed another 40,148 people to participate in the Centennial Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings in January 2017.
A FIFA delegation toured all the Bid Cities and watched the Canadian men beat Mexico 2-1 before an announced crowd of 44,212 at a snow-covered Commonwealth Stadium last November.
Seventeen U. S. stadiums U. S. in 16 regions remain in the 2026 candidate city, with Los Angeles dominating SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, from the 1994 World Cup final.
Chicago, Minneapolis and Arizona withdrew in March 2018 due to what city officials called strong monetary demands from FIFA. At the time, Charlotte, North Carolina; Las Vegas; Salt Lake City; and Tampa, Florida, were cut. FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, retired in April.
