Facebook has removed a message from President Donald Trump for violating his policy of opposition to the disinformation about the coronavirus.
The message contained a link to a Fox News video in which Trump said young people are “practically immune” to the virus.
Facebook said Wednesday that “the video includes false statements that an organization of others is immune to COVID-19, which is a violation of our destructive COVID disinformation policies.”
Hours later, Twitter temporarily blocked Trump’s crusade from tweeting from his account, until he deleted a post with the same video. Trump’s account retwed the video. The company said Wednesday night that the tweet violated its regulations that oppose COVID’s misinformation. When a tweet violates their regulations, Twitter asks users to delete the tweet from the questions and prohibits them from posting anything else until they do.
Twitter has been faster than Facebook in recent months to tag the president’s posts that violate their policies of opposition to misinformation and abuse.
It’s not the first time Facebook has deleted a message from Trump, Facebook said, but it’s the first time it’s done so because it spreads incorrect information about the coronavirus. The corporate has also classified their messages.
Several studies suggest, although they prove, that young people are less likely to be inflamed than adults and are more likely to have only mild symptoms. But it’s the same as being “practically immune” to the virus.
A CDC study of 2,500 young people published in April found that approximately 1 in five inflamed young people hospitalized compared to 1 in 3 adults; Three young men died. The study does not have full knowledge of all cases, but it also suggests that many inflamed children have no symptoms, which may allow them to transmit the virus to others.
