Facebook prohibits more than 790 QAnon-connected teams, as well as more than 980 militia-connected teams

OAKLAND, California – Facebook says it will restrict QAnon’s right-wing motion of conspiracy and no longer propose that users register with teams to help it, the company does not completely prohibit it.

Facebook said Wednesday banning QAnon-related teams and accounts and a variety of U.S.-based militias and anarchist teams that are violent. But the company will continue to allow others to post curtains that are those of those teams, as long as they do not violate in a different way the policies that oppose hate speech, abuse and other provocations.

QAnon teams have flourished on Facebook in recent years. Twitter recently announced an offensive.

QAnon’s conspiracy theory focuses on unfounded confidence that President Donald Trump is waging a secret crusade opposed to enemies in the “deep state” and a child sex trafficking network run by satanic paedophiles and cannibals. For more than two years, fans have found tangled clues allegedly posted online through a senior government official known only as “Q”.

Conspiracy theory has emerged in a dark corner of the Internet, but has recently been introduced to dominant politics. Trump has retwented accounts selling QAnon and his fans flock to their rallies dressed in QAnon symbols and slogans.

Last week, Marjorie Tyler Greene, a leading House candidate who is bratably QAnon, won her Republican number one in Georgia. She is one of a list of applicants who have expressed support for QAnon. Lauren Boebert, another candidate who has been expressed by QAnon, recently disappointed a five-term congressman at a Republican number one in Colorado.

Facebook said it would directly eliminate teams and accounts if they discussed possible violence, and added in veiled language.

“We will continue with the express terminology and symbolism used through supporters to identify the language used through those teams and movements that indicate violence and act accordingly,” the corporation said.

Facebook will restrict content you don’t delete, first, you will no longer send it. For example, when others sign up for a QAnon group, Facebook will not present similar teams to sign up for. It will also not include QAnon references in searches or, in the near future, will not allow it in ads.

As a result of policy changes, Facebook says it has been undone from more than 790 computers, one hundred pages and 1,500 QAnon-related classified ads on Facebook and blocked more than three hundred hashtags on Facebook and Instagram. There are 1950 other teams and 440 claims to have known Facebook that remain on the platform but face restrictions as well as 10,000 instagram accounts.

For defense force organizations and those that inspire riots, adding some that can be identified as antifa, the company said it had been undone from more than 980 groups, 520 pages and 160 Facebook ads.

Facebook said it did not completely ban QAnon because the organization did not meet the “rigorous” criteria for the platform to designate it as a “dangerous organization.” But it expands this policy to accept the motion because it has “demonstrated significant dangers to public safety.”
