(RTTNews) – Facebook threatens to ban its users in Australia from sharing data on its main app and Instagram after Australia’s customer control body, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, or ACCC, negotiated the draft code for the media.
“Australia is drafting a new regulation that doesn’t perceive the dynamics of and will harm news organizations that the government seeks to protect,” said Will Easton, executive leader of Facebook Australia and New Zealand.
He added that Facebook will have a selection among absolutely news or accept a formula that allows publishers to rate all the content they need for a value with no transparent limits.
Easton noted that the ACCC ignores the facts, especially media and social media citations, in drafting this new legislation.
However, Facebook has shown that its products and in Australia that allow a circle of family and friends will not be affected by this decision.
Meanwhile, the ACCC responded to the Facebook movement by stating, “Facebook’s risk of preventing you from sharing news in Australia today is premature and ill-conceived.”
The ACCC added: “The draft media bargaining code is intended to enable Australian media companies, adding independent, network and regional media, to take their position at the fair negotiating table with Facebook and Google.”
Facebook’s resolution is similar to looking for the giant Google, which has warned its users in Australia that new government regulations would require it to offer consumers a “dramatically worse” search for Google and YouTube.
Easton stated that “the ACCC assumes that Facebook makes the most of its relationships with publishers, when in fact the opposite is true.”
Facebook has postponed the advent of its new Facebook News in Australia due to existing regulatory stagnation and the publication of the draft news trading code.
