Facebook is launching a new full-screen video player for reels, longer videos, and live streams. This updated design introduces video display uniformity on Facebook for all videos, regardless of length, now in a consistent full-screen format. , which looks like TikTok.
The new video player, which will now launch first on iOS and Android in the U. S. In the U. S. and Canada (and globally in the “coming months”), it comes with advanced controls, such as a full-screen mode for horizontal videos and a slider for easy navigation. through longer content and quick buttons that allow users to pause or fast forward or rewind for 10 seconds.
“In the updated full-screen video player, we’ll also have advanced recommendations for videos of any length that we think you’re most likely to enjoy based on your interests,” Meta said.
With this update, users who click on a video in the Facebook app will now default to full-screen playback in portrait orientation.
There is a landscape view option for horizontal videos with a single tap. There’s also now a scroll feature to jump to quick sections of a video. There’s a slider on the back of the player, just like TikTok, that allows you to skip to any of a video.
Beyond the player itself, Facebook is also updating its advisory rule set to show more applicable videos in users’ feeds and in the Video tab, similar to TikTok’s creepy set of rules that knows their personal tastes all too well.
