Facebook this week banned an organization of nearly 200,000 members committed to QAnon’s conspiracy theory for violating the network’s terms of service.
According to reports, the official Q/Qanon was removed after members posted messages that violated Facebook regulations that opposed “intimidation and harassment, hate speech and false data that could harm.”
According to Reuters, an anonymous Facebook spokesman “said Facebook took the action Tuesday and followed other QAnon teams as it strengthened law enforcement in the region.”
In the past, Facebook had taken strong action against QAnon’s pages and teams in May for allegedly adopting fake accounts of “unre authentic coordinated behavior,” but The Guardian published an investigation in June highlighting QAnon’s success on the social network.
In July, Social Rival Twitter introduced its own crackdown on QAnon.
As explained in the past, QAnon is “a theory that the president is secretly running with the army to deploy a multinational clique of elite ritual paedophiles.”
The conspiracy theories of QAnon supporters have become increasingly over the years, with accusations of sex trafficking, ritual sacrifice and occultism opposed to celebrities and political figures.
