Epic rocket engine prepares for personal landing on the moon in 2021

A huge cloud of smoke rose over the Utah desert when the first rocket engine overhaul took place near the small town of Promontory on Thursday (August 13).

Northrop Grumman Corp. set fire to the engine for about 90 seconds on the long-running missions of the Hard Vulcan Centaur rocket of the United Launch Alliance, whose first voyage will send a landing robot to the moon.

Vulcan Centaur’s inaugural flight is scheduled for July 2021 and will literally serve as a moon shot for the personal area industry.Astrobot, a former competitor of the Google Lunar X award, plans to send his Peregrine landing robot to the lunar surface.According to plan, Astrobot will make the first personal landing on the moon.

The Peregrine project will serve as a check for Astrobotic’s upcoming major lunar company, which supports NASA’s lunar advertising services program that will end personal robots and landing blocks on the moon later in the 2020s.Astrobotic is currently expected to bring NASA’s VIPER rover to the moon.surface until the end of 2023.

ULA is making its rockets more competitive in a market where festivals are booming. Many startups accept the challenge of sending robotic missions and satellites into space, with inventions such as 3D printing and complex propulsion.

The new rocket engine will serve as a competitive merit for ULA for Vulcan Centaur.A Spokesperson for Northrop Grumman said the d GEM 63XL is 15 to 20% stronger than the “standard” GEM 63 engine. The improved engine uses advanced production generation.to the roles of heavy launchers,” Charlie Precourt, a retired NASA astronaut and vice president of propulsion systems for Northrop Grumman, said in a statement.

The GEM 63XL engine TEST produced nearly a million pound of thrust and was used to describe engine isolation, propellant gain, ballistics and nozzle in a blood-free environment similar to what would be expected in the upper areas while the rocket was flying.

The GEM circle of relatives of belt engines was first developed in the early 1980s, and versions flew on ULA rockets, adding the Delta 2, Delta 2 Heavy and Delta 4.The first flight of the popular GEM 63 engines will be in a heavy- Lift the ULA Atlas V releaser, scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Coincidentally, Northrop Grumman evolved the first human lunar lander, known as the lunar module. The vehicle made six touchdowns on the moon between 1969 and 1972, wearing 12 Apollo astronauts safely to the surface and back into lunar orbit.NASA hopes to send humans back to the moon through 2024 as component of the Artemis program. In April, NASA decided on Blue Origin, Dynetics and SpaceX to design and build human touchdown systems, one of which will be used for the first moon touchdown.
