SpaceX has released a first update on what enthusiasts of the space fairing company can expect for 2024, and one of those updates is about when Starship, the world’s largest and most resilient rocket, will take to the skies again.
The update was laid out through SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who stepped up to the Starbase level for a 45-minute presentation outlining everything SpaceX is running and what we can expect for 2024. If you haven’t been following the news of Starship, the world’s largest rocket made its third orbital test flight last month and it was a huge success as the giant rocket managed to reach orbit.
SpaceX is recently conducting its fourth test flight, and according to Musk, the main goal will be to land the rocket somewhere in the ocean on a virtual tower. Notably, SpaceX plans to “trap” Starship’s Super Heavy booster in a SpaceX tower called Mechazilla. .
“At least two consecutive hits of a certain style that land at one point in the ocean or crash into a point in the ocean,” Musk said.
The design is a hairpin-like technique, as it will feature two extendable arms that Super Heavy or Starship will place right between them. Musk said SpaceX would first try to land the Starship on an ocean tower and, if successful, then try to catch it. at the launch tower in Boca Chica, Texas.
SpaceX plans to capture the Super Heavy booster in an ocean tower first and then attempt to capture it in an Earth release tower. However, shipping Starsend will require two catches at sea before the company attempts to catch it on land. Musk said SpaceX is making plans for Starsend’s fourth verification flight next month.
