Elon Musk on whether an Apple Watch Tesla app will come: ‘Sure’

Elon Musk has suggested that Tesla owners will soon be able to open their cars through an official Apple Watch app.

In an exchange on X – the artist formerly known as Twitter – the Tesla CEO responded to a question from a frustrated owner asking whether Apple Watch integration could be incorporated.

“Absolutely,” Musk replied when asked, though it’s not yet clear if the company will comply with that request.

It’s not even clear whether Tesla was even considering making an Apple Watch app until this moment, actually, given that it’s so far steered clear of developing one for the smartwatch.

Sure

But there’s clearly demand for proper integration, with notable third-party apps like Tessie filling the void in the meantime, and an official version could add some neat integrations for Apple Watch owners.

In addition to unlocking the car, something that is currently possible through the iPhone, the watch can also be used to remotely start the car, control the weather, and more.

Again, though, all of this is just speculative – we only have Elon’s singular word to go off at this stage, even if support would seem like a no-brainer.

Apple’s Car Key functionality, after all, is currently limited to just a select number of newer BMW models, and Tesla rival Rivian announced late last year it was working on a way to allow the smartwatch to unlock its vehicles.

While we wait to learn more, stay tuned and don’t carry your Tesla key card in your sock just in case.
