Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos added to TVs, monitors, PCs, and cars

Dolby Laboratories is having a generally busy CES this year, as a slew of new brands and devices confirm that they will adopt Dolby’s Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos immersive audio formats.

The highlight of Dolby’s booth at CES 2024 reminds us of the growing number of high-end automakers that have turned to Dolby Atmos for their car audio systems. Just yesterday, Mercedes-Benz, Audible and Amazon Music unveiled a collaboration to bring Dolby Atmos titles and tracks to Mercedes-Benz consumers on Audible and Amazon Music. The Amazon Music app with Dolby Atmos is now available in select Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and the Audible app is shown to be coming later this year to Mercedes cars. It is supplied with the optional Burmester 4D and 3-D audio systems and the latest generation of MBUX.

Dolby also announced its collaboration with Lotus as the car’s functional logo makes its debut at CES, allowing CES-goers to revel in the new Lotus Eletre SUV and its revolutionary built-in Dolby Atmos sound system.

The Mercedes-Benz and Lotus support means that the number of auto manufacturers that have either already fitted or have committed to supporting Dolby Atmos sound systems has now reached double figures.

Dolby also had some great news to share at CES 2024 regarding its Dolby Atmos FlexConnect system, which allows consumers to charge optional wireless external speakers on FlexConnect-enabled TVs to create a complete surround sound experience with minimal effort, even in challenging room setups. Hisense joined TCL in commenting on the FlexConnect system, as the Chinese TV logo was already demonstrating its new FlexTech wireless rear speaker features for its 2024 TVs at its CES booth.

Popular TV chipmaker MediaTek also recently announced that it will incorporate Dolby Atmos FlexConect into its Pentonic TV platform, in Pentonic and Filogic chipsets.

Dolby, for its part, is employing CES to preview an expanded diversity of implementation features for Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, such as new configuration methods, and how the formula may evolve to work with next-generation wireless protocols.

When it comes to the world of gaming and computing, two of the world’s most popular PC monitor brands revealed at CES 2024 that they will introduce Dolthrough Vision HDR to their new lineups for the first time. Alienware was the first to break the trap by pronouncing Dolthrough Vision for its AW3225QF 32 4K QD-OLED gaming monitor, and then Asus revealed that it was adding it to its ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM.

Finally, Dell announced on January 4 that it will add Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound to its new XPS 16, XPS 1four, and XPS thirteen laptops.
