Discord is a very popular messaging app, thanks to its multitude of features, but those same features have also made the mobile app very cluttered. However, starting today, Discord is launching a redesigned mobile app for all Android and iOS users. .
Announced in a blog post, the new Discord app for Android and iOS officially launches today, after testing over the past few months. Francesco Polizzi of Discord explains that the purpose of the new design was to create an app that simplifies the Discord experience. for mobile that put everything in the desktop app.
Discord says:
Starting today, we’re excited to announce that “Discord still smol” is evolving so you can enjoy what makes your phone so fantastic. Instead of modernizing mouse and keyboard models, it’s a new look at the touchscreen that fits in your pocket. It’s a faster and more reliable app than before, with new features for you and your friends to chat and spend time on the go, such as voicemails, and a flexible 25MB log download limit. More importantly, this time around, we’ve designed for mobile as a standalone experience in its own right: as anything you can use as your main Discord app when you’re on the go, not as something you use with the desktop app.
What does this mean?
In the new Discord app for Android and iOS, users will locate their servers in the sidebar as it is today, but it’s no longer the only interface. The servers exist in a compromised tab in the app, with a backbar that also provides access. to 3 other sections. The first is “Messages,” which hosts any direct messages or small teams you’ve created with other Discord users outside of the servers. This tab also includes a search service that also works with direct messages and servers.
Conversations and servers both also get some mobile optimizations, such as the ability to swipe on a message to reply in thread to it. It’s also much easier to make group DMs in the new app.
Then, a “Notifications” tab, which brings together combined mentions, friend requests, and more under one roof. And finally, the “You” tab houses your profile with username, profile picture, and your friends list settings.
The new Discord app for Android and iOS is also significantly smaller and faster. On Android, the app opens 55% faster, while it opens 43% faster on iOS. Android users will also see fewer crashes and the app uses 4 times less data. .
Discord introduces, with this update, the long-awaited “Midnight” theme that is completely black on OLED displays.
This new app launches today.
