Current Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review: 7 features out of the and not so wonderful today

CNET is also available in Spanish.

Don’t show that anymore

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is eye-catching, expensive. Here’s what we’re thinking so far.

So, here’s one of the big questions I’m looking to answer before the end of the Note 20 Ultra review era: how does a device designed for experienced users, active in society, have compatibility in a world already replaced by the coronavirus pandemic?

That doesn’t mean I’m enjoying my time with the Note 20 Ultra. I laugh knowing the ins and outs of this electric phone. I have already fallen in love with the characteristic bronze tone of the $1300 flagship camera ($1179, AU$1894) and the fact that its matte end deters fingerprints.

It’s modern and charming, until you get to the massive camera hit, but it’s also huge, difficult for my handymen and bewildering when it comes to safe design decisions. This is an ongoing review, so my impressions can be replaced and deepened over time. Read on to find out my observations so far and to be more informed about the popular 20 bill, which costs $1,000 ($849, AU$1499).

This coup of Note 20 Ultra is synonymous with business.

Color: I can see why Samsung has made mystical bronze its signature color and has changed a bright end to a sublime and complicated matte sheen. It’s bright and discreet without being boring, leave it like a fat trap. At least that’s what it looks like.

Casual photography: Taking photos is fun. Images are vivid and 5x optical zoom keeps picture quality high enough to make me keep using it. Ultra-wide angle photos are always a great tool to have in the photo arsenal to provide dramatic effect. Yes, the Note 20 Ultra continues Samsung’s prevalence to oversaturate some photos and 108-megapixel photography can produce mixed results. Overall, I’m happy with most photos.

Zoom photography is better: I’m glad the Note 20 Ultra is disconnected from the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 100x “spatial” zoom. My most productive photo with a 50x zoom assisted through AI was the one I was lucky. This looks good, but even with a stabilizing force like a tripod, the symbol jumps like crazy.

Screen quality: 6.9 inches and, as always, bright and bright. It was wonderful to read news, watch videos and scroll through the photos. See the opposite of the brightness below. Since the bezel is so thin, I continue to press the sides of the phone, but the symbol itself is fantastic, even with the default FHD setting of 2326×1 080 pixels (this goes up to WQHD, which is 3088×1440 pixels).

Pencil Tips: My favorite Galaxy Note device comes to life, such as taking a very accurate screenshot with the S Pen, the magnifying tool for reading online menus and too small sources (effortlessly) and seamlessly creating a screen recording or GIF of the screen component. There are a few others, such as writing about a PDF that you can import into the Notes app (yes!) And write down a screen. You can also double-click the S Pen yetton to delete what you typed. He’s not new this year, but he’s a favorite.

Selfie Shutter: Taking a selfie with the S Pen is very simple when you press the stylus button in one hand without having to pull your arm out at an awkward angle or worry about dropping your phone. Facial filters for selfies are smart for adding warmth or walking on breaks if a symbol is oversaturated.

Phone calls: who already uses a phone? Do! A lot! Especially now that I accept many professional calls as I walk. Every call has sounded in my area, however, your scenario, of course, may vary depending on the service you live in.

Battery life: After an asymmetrical first day, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra’s 4500mAh battery behaves more as expected for a flagship phone, uf! On my most intense day of use so far, I was at 35% after 12 o’clock (which included an hour and a part of browsing On Google Maps) and gradually got tired up to 16% at 7am. This used the default 120 Hz adaptive brightness display setting and no battery optimization settings. I’ve activated it now, so let’s see how it goes.

This camera shot: it’s hard to forget and, frankly, it’s a little horrific. Without a holster, I’m always worried about dropping it and breaking the camera matrix, which would certainly be the first thing to hit, or leave it and drag or move the camera in a way that scratches the camera. This already happened to me and then ruined all the ultra-wide photographs, so accept as true with me when I say it’s not an unnecessary question.

It’s heavy: after a day of physical appearance, I sought to fall asleep watching Netflix before falling asleep. After 10 minutes, my hand has become heavy to hold the telephone. I switched to my phone holder, pressed the Note 20 Ultra on the stand and hit it in my belly. He staggered and swayed every time I laughed. He even fell once. Despite each and every one, I put the stand and the telephone on my bedaspect table and turned to the side to look, until I had a cricket around my neck and stopped after an hour. However, excellent sound quality and symbols.

The location of the S Pen: possibly anything I have to get used to, but so far, moving the right side of the phone to the left is not working very well for me. There is nothing inherent in design, however, for some reason, achieving it seems like an arduous task. Have you moved to accommodate the camera equipment? We’ll see if I warm up with the settings as they pass the tests.

Night screen brightness: With lighting accessories off, Android Wind Down mode enabled and brightness has slid to its lowest settings, the screen is too bright to induce drowsiness. Chances are, it’s to invite me to the midnight awakenings than to go back to sleep. I’d love to see a more competitive midnight scenario.

Wired headphones are not included in the box. My colleague Patrick Holland accepts this, and perhaps for you, it’s not a big deal as Samsung turns users into wireless headphones like their Galaxy Buds Live (also known as Galaxy Beans). But the live Galaxy Buds charge $170 and Samsung has spent years promoting the price of $99 of the stressed headphones included in the box. So, if you don’t care much about wireless headphones (for example, they fall out of my ears or pick up the wind noise outside), you automatically lose the $99 price of the hearing aids provided, plus $170 or more. a lot, you end up in anything else. So, if you don’t already have headphones you need to use, your ownership charge just increased.

You can get a little toasty. My colleagues at CNET and I discovered that the Note 20 Ultra seemed to generate and burn a lot of heat, it’s a daily event. Nothing fancy, just a warmth emanating from phones (and laptops and other electronic devices) when working hard. On a hot summer day, this is not the ultimate pleasant feeling in my pocket and hand, but in fact it’s not a deciding factor.

There is still a lot to see, as the Note 20 Ultra starts to install as my phone for next week. Keep reviewing as this test develops day after day. And read on to find out our original prints on the Note 20 Ultra and the popular Note 20. And scroll to the end to see all the specifications.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra reminds me of a character directly from Greek mythology. With its sleek profile, shimmering bronze end (for its characteristic color) and thick camera bulge on the back like a pair of composite eyes, it doesn’t take much more than a look to see this new phone for experienced users. much encounter-mermaid-cyclops.

The Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra look are just the beginning of the story, and there are many more below, which adds an unexpected change. But before you go, it’s vital to perceive the context in which those phones are revealed. Galaxy Note 20 phones are available for pre-order now and are expected to arrive until the official august 21 sale date. The Note 20 starts at $1,000 ($849, AU$1499) and the Note 20 Ultra starts at $1300 ($1,179, A$1,849).

The coronavirus pandemic has shaken the world, putting lives at risk, causing a global recession and challenging the need for a premium telephone with the cheapest style that costs $1,000, $50 more than last year’s basic Galaxy Note 10. Samsung asks us the merits of a 5G camera with juicy cameras and features more suited to the convention room than for the show, Google has just released a perfect 349-pluser telephone that is more in song with lean and dubious days.

The timing is fortuitous, but pitiful. Phones can take more than a year to navigate the pipe. Then, when Samsung designers and engineers plotted the Note 20 update, the feature roadmap was well established. The Note line has been synonymous with software and specifications that go further. While many features and updates, such as new S Pen gestures adapted to PowerPoint presentations, will make sense for a post-pandemic world, the current state of COVID-19 instances is a weak argument for the “normal” activities that merit such a device. .

This is not to say that the Note 20 and 20 Ultra will not have their position on the list of who is who from the 2020 telephones, although it is too early to know. I spend all day on my laptop, but every now and then I take my phone as a screen for the moment or even as a favorite screen to read on the bed, on the sofa or on the kitchen table when I need to change the rhythm. I’m using cell phone bills more than ever, because outlets in my domain are avoiding money in favor of contactless transactions. And the battery life is of the utmost importance, as I reconnect with my friends and colleagues during walking hours with only my phone phone to get some new air. Samsung also claims that cell phone use is higher during this period.

The difference is that without the end of the pandemic in sight, it is more complicated to embark with a telephone whose main features seem less convincing at first by the force of time. Actually, I hope Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra will appeal to me when I check the test units. I hope Samsung’s annual exchange and upgrade systems will inspire its tireless consumers to transfer to a device that may be offering the kind of key features, long-term battery life, and fun extras that can make a telephone fun to use for years to watch.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra features a bright 6.9-inch display.

I’m in a position that the Galaxy Note 20 and The Note 20 Ultra convince me, or at least look at the most productive: the heaviest camera lump and everything. (Psst. Samsung also announced the Galaxy Z Fold 2 on Wednesday. While it will actually charge more than the Note 20, its ability to stay open when bent is excited to see more).

Samsung has introduced us to the concept of an entry-level Note plus phone in 2019, but this year there is a big gap between the Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra. (Scroll to the end for a complete comparison of specifications).

The Ultra has a 6.9-inch curved screen, a more squared-off shape and all the perks, including the higher-powered camera tech, support for Google’s Nearby Share through its UWB Share (ultra wide band) feature and a microSD card slot up to 1TB. The screen has an option to flip into a 120Hz refresh rate, where each pixel refreshes 120 times per second, making scrolling liquid-smooth. (We’ll have to see how this affects battery life.)

And then there’s the camera lump. Full Disclosure: I didn’t have the ability to see the 20-inch user here in California, but my New York colleague, Richard Peterson, was able to manage and film any of the devices and consult to answer my long list of questions.

When attending a virtual briefing and examining our images, it is transparent that from an angle, the Note 20 Ultra looks sublime and sexy. On the other hand, it is unpleasantly heavy, in a way that makes me pass a case as a necessity to the camera holder of the Note 20 Ultra. The fact that the camera matrix extends so far from framing makes this domain much more vulnerable to breakage, cracking, and scratches when deposited or dragged on a surface, for example, if the phone is placed on the back.

We’ll check the Note 20 Ultra’s Victus New Gorilla Glass armor on both sides, but I’ve used enough phone cameras in my critical career to recommend avoiding this threat at all costs.

The mystical bronze color features a matte finish, while the black mystic and the mystical white are glossy glass.

This Note 20 Ultra camera mount is a business.

The Note 20 features a 6.7-inch flat screen with no curved sides (must-have on the Note line for years). But here’s the deciding factor: it has a plastic back, which Samsung prefers to call polycarbonate. There is no slot for microSD cards (like last year) and small features are missing. There are lower camera specifications (including professional videoless mode), less complex display generation with 120Hz refresh rate option, smaller battery capacity (4300mAh vs. 4500mAh), less RAM (8GB vs. 12GB) and no UWB sharing.

Embrace the cake, mystical green, mystical bronze and mystical grey tones of the Note 20 have a matte finish. It uses a steel frame and a Gorilla Glass five on the front, the latest Gorilla Glass Victus.

The Note 20 has the same fundamental specifications as the Note 20 Ultra. The 10-megapixel selfie camera, new S Pen gestures and Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor are between the two phones.

But let’s go back to the note 20’s plastic: this doesn’t seem to be the case with a circle of relatives of telephones that usually consists of presenting the most productive of what Samsung has to offer. Without seeing the telephone again, it’s hard to swallow a $1000 telephone with a plastic backing. Maybe it’ll replace my mind.

The camera matrix is where Samsung needs Note 20 phones, and especially the Note 20 Ultra, to shine. He took a step back from the ostentation of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which had a 100x spatial zoom and a main camera capable of taking a 108 megapixel photo, focusing on the concept of cropping for more details.

Samsung still gave the Note 20 Ultra an 108-megapixel camera option — you tap it to turn it on when you want the full resolution. When it comes to zoom, the Note 20 falls back to 50x zoom, with the Note 20 settling in at 30x.

It’s attractive to see Samsung back like this, however, the company responds to comments that the S20 Ultra is too expensive and that its 100x zoom is not smart or useful enough to justify the price.

The Note 20 Ultra features a 5x optical zoom, which deserves to make the images taken in this diversity sharper and clearer than virtual zoom alone. We’ll see soon enough.

The Note 20 Ultra’s faster autofocus is also designed to give you an edge over the Note 20, so you can take pictures of animals writhing, laughing facial expressions and hummingbird beats faster, without missing the photo.

A professional video mode comprises more manual equipment and image capture features that deserve to make budding filmmakers happy. This is one of Samsung’s weakest domain names for several years, compared to the latest iPhone. As with the Galaxy S20 Ultra, any of the phones captures 8K videos. Just know that this will make video files massive inside and outside your phone.

Writing is one of the things that Galaxy Note phones do best.

What would Galaxy Note be without your pencil? For the faithful, scribble, navigate and annotate are components of the phone’s charm. The same goes for the fact that the Notes app can do all of the above. These are the newest features of the Note 20 models.

New S Pen gesture navigation: When pointing the tip of the stylus away from its frame (and away from the phone), press and hold the stylus button while making one of five new gestures to return, move home, open a recent app, or take a screenshot with Smart Select. You can also doodle with the pen to capture the entire screen.

The S Pen responds best on the Note 20 Ultra when the 120 Hz display is on.

Handwriting recognition gets better with tools including autostraighten.

Samsung Notes, however, gets an automatic live sync. This will purchase a note in the cloud so you can access it from any other device, as long as you are signed in to a Samsung account.

Join and sync voice recordings. You can sync your voice note with what you type so that it’s from the moment you mention the word.

Import a PDF to annotate or highlight. Instead of printing a page or downloading it to point it out, then downloading or sending it back, you can mark your signature and export it again.
