Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed that Season 2 of Netflix’s unprecedented series could arrive in late next year, with a tentative release date of 2023 or early 2024. The Korean series “Squid Game” debuted on the streamer in 2021.

“Squid Game” was originally meant to be a movie and had been in the works for more than 10 years after Hwang wrote the script in 2009. Hwang brought “Squid Game” as a movie to Netflix after the broadcaster announced in South Korea in 2016. The author once told IndieWire that the concept was “unrealistic at the time” because it was “too rare” and would not be a good monetary fortune as a film. The nine-episode series premiered on Netflix in September 2021.
