The CLUSSTER1 project targets the French and European cloud industry by creating a cloud committed to synthetic intelligence, high-performance computing, and quantum computing. As a single point of access, the CLUSSTER project will combine a diversity of virtual resources for the education sector and business communities. The task is led by a consortium of French educational and commercial researchers in numerical computing and AI: GENCI, CEA, CNRS and Inria, as well as the commercial corporations Eviden (Atos Group), OVHcloud, CS Group, ActiveEon and Qarnot. .

At a time when the availability of cloud computing technologies is accelerating, this secure, unified, and scalable system, available from 2024, meets the needs of synthetic intelligence (AI) and high-functionality computing (HPC). It will then be extended to quantum computing.

This style-as-a-service for HPC, AI, and quantum computing in the cloud will provide access to one of the largest portfolios of computing and supercomputing, fostering and enabling the democratization of complex computing by simplifying the use of public and personal knowledge centers. . .

For the first time, this task will help ensure continuity between open studies, confidential studies and commercial activities. It also aims to combine sovereign infrastructures that are educational and commercial, as well as value-added “Experience as Experience”. -service” and “Learning as a service” (support, business experience, training, generational surveillance).

The first partners to make their IT resources available are the French public bodies GENCI, CNRS-IDRIS and Inria, as well as OVHcloud and Qarnot for the personal sector.

CLUSSTER will also provide access to resources available in France and Europe, thanks to the convergence of European projects on sovereign cloud platforms such as GAIA-X and EOSC (European Open Science Cloud).

The CLUSSTER portal will be based on Eviden’s “JARVICE™ XE HPC Enterprise Software” solution, which offers a suite of flexible and secure HPC-as-a-Service solutions. It will be complemented by complementary installations (vertical commercial installations and/or horizontal generation). installations) provided through ActiveEon, as well as equipment for measuring electricity and carbon consumption, have an impact on all the infrastructures that the CLUSSTER federation has to report on the footprint of the operations carried out.

Thanks to the expertise of the consortium participants, the CLUSSTER project will deliver fast software environments across vertical professions, in particular in the sectors of geospatial (CS Group), climate (CEA), hazard calculation and 3D rendering (Qarnot) . and numerical simulation. Thanks to new investments from the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, this cluster will be complemented with expansions, such as in synthetic intelligence with the processing of giant linguistic models (LLM), or in virtual health, as well as other geoscience spaces. In collaboration with the national infrastructure GaiaData.

High-value added values in terms of education-as-a-service and generation-as-a-service monitoring will also be presented (MesoNet project, GENCI Technology Watch Unit and Grid’5000/SLICES-FR).

“This initiative is perfectly in line with Evien’s strategy and we feel revered to be able to participate together with our partners. The hybridization of technologies and the progression of IT-as-a-Service functions are a priority for the Group in order to make those technologies more available to our consumers and to encourage innovation and studies in the educational and commercial world. Emmanuel Le Roux, Senior Vice President, Global Head of HPC, AI & Quantum at Eviden, Atos Group

“A continuum of virtual simulation resources and synthetic intelligence technologies is a basic requirement for the studies and progression of wisdom and technologies. The joint public-private proposal carried out through CLUSSTER comes at a time of very strong expansion in demand. His prospect of opening up the quantum domain already demonstrates a spirit of anticipation of the future. Philippe Lavocat, Managing Director of GENCI

About GENCI

GENCI (Grand Equipement National de Calcul Intensif) is a primary education infrastructure created in 2007 to democratize the use of virtual simulation through high-performance computing, now related to the use of synthetic intelligence and clinical and commercial competitiveness.

GENCI 3 Missions:

Implement the national strategy aimed at offering France the means of computing, storing and processing a large amount of knowledge related to artificial intelligence technologies and long-term quantum technologies to take advantage of French and European open clinical studies in relationship with the three national computing centers;

Support the realisation of a quantum, HPC and AI ecosystem at national and European level;

Promote HPC numerical simulation to open educational study groups and industry.

GENCI is a civil society 49% owned through the French State represented through the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, 20% through the CEA, 20% through the CNRS, 10% through France Universités and 1% through Inria.
