HONG KONG (Reuters) – China on Thursday launched a series of interim measures to manage the burgeoning generative synthetic intelligence (AI) industry, paving the way for Chinese tech corporations to implement AI in the country.
The Cyberspace Administration of China, which published the set of regulations on its website, said service providers will be required to conduct security testing and carry out a set of regulatory submission procedures before products are launched. The measures will take effect on August 15.

The web watchdog said AI installations presented in the country should be in line with China’s socialist values.
It said regulators will “formulate appropriate classification and qualification regulatory standards or guidelines” on the characteristics and instances of use of other generative AI technologies.
He also added that industry organizations, corporations and think tanks that expand and apply generative AI generation but supply it to the public will be subject to the measures.
