ChargePoint, the California-based provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging networks, is expanding its offerings in North America to cater to electric hardware of other makes and models, starting with chargers made by consumer electronics giant LG.
ChargePoint already supplies hardware, software, and users across all business segments. As a result of this new software update, consumers will be able to use the LG hardware of their choice. They can also choose to deploy packaged hardware and software from within ChargePoint. or hardware from a third-party manufacturer to be controlled through your existing ChargePoint software.
The expansion comes as higher sales of electric cars are driving demand for a denser network of charging stations across the country, whether in offices, shopping malls, hotels, gas stations or other locations. According to a recent CBRE commercial real estate study, corporations are installing these types of chargers in office parking lots to attract workers in a tough and tight labor market.
By opening up new opportunities for consumers and charger brands to take advantage of its software, ChargePoint says it needs to help drive the wider adoption of EV charging solutions, powered through software that enables detailed and valuable insights. “ChargePoint remains focused on delivering integrated and networked charging solutions that enable a seamless charging experience for on-site drivers and hosts,” Rich Mohr, ChargePoint’s senior vice president for the Americas, said in a statement. “By partnering with other charging hardware brands, we are enabling more consumers to use the ChargePoint software platform to power their EV charging programs, providing a world-class driving experience. “
