How Dejero helped The Jewellery Channel keep shining covid-19 crash
Dejero helped The Jewellery Channel (TJC) present its live auction programming outside the studio, ushering in a new era for the production and broadcast of telesales shows.
The British telesales channel TJC, a subsidiary of Indian jewelry conglomerate VGL Group, uses the Dejero generation to produce some of its live broadcasts worldwide, with live content on Sky, Freeview, FreeSat and Virgin in SD and HD. TJC also streams on YouTube and can be obtained through the Apple TV, Fire TV and Roku apps. Dejero’s apparatus also played a key role in the good fortune of the broadcaster’s business continuity plan of the recent Pandemic Covid-19.
“Our telesales audience is so used to seeing products featured in a studio, but now it’s captivated by our new ability to bring them live products from the outside,” says Martin Willingham, TJC’s Technical Director. “Now we can interact with our audience elsewhere in a laugh and exclusive way, which makes us very flexible. It doesn’t take a day and a part to create a study; we can go from nothing to being able to broadcast from anywhere in less than 30 minutes thanks to Dejero. »
At TJC, products are essential, however, it is equally vital to offer the viewer an animated and engaging demonstration of a product. That’s why, lately, the broadcast team has to check a new taste of the broadcasts. In what has become a pioneering movement in the telecompra space, TJC has taken some of its screens out of the studio and filmed them on-site around the world. However, before making this leap, TJC sought to make sure that it could create exciting systems on the site that maintained the same video quality and content that its audience was used to.
The team wanted a delivery transmission solution that would provide reliable connectivity as a priority number one, but that did not require configuration days before a transmission. As a lower-value home auction channel, TJC also knew that low latency would not only be for the program director, but also for the producer. Dynamic graphics and valuable updates, for example, are downloaded and changed live. Producers want to see what happens before it is transmitted, correct errors and graphics temporarily and efficiently.
Another vital focus for TJC was the ability to ensure the continuity of covid-19 pandemic operations, which required the broadcaster to establish secondary headquarters and be ready to broadcast from home if necessary, as ordered through the government.
Using a combination of Dejero EnGo cellular transmitters, a Dejero WayPoint receiver, a Dejaro CuePoint return server and Dejero LivePlus cell applications, TJC can film and stream content from anywhere in the world within 30 minutes of reaching the site.
Dejero’s EnGo transmitters use Smart Bending generation to incorporate combined network technologies from operators. The transmitter dynamically and intelligently manages fluctuating bandwidth, packet loss, and real-time latency differences, meaning TJC doesn’t have to worry about cellular policy status or local knowledge when shooting on site. EnGo is combined with the Dejero LivePlus mobile app, which is downloaded to a smartphone, tablet or laptop, allowing TJC to produce amazing content in any environment.
“InGo you can use Wi-Fi, 3G/4G cellular/5G and Ethernet, and as long as there is a solid connection, you can use a combination of all three,” Says Willingham. “This gives us a backup, we have the convenience that the video will continue to be broadcast. Our reputation is paramount, we are perceived to have technical problems.”
The Dejaro CuePoint video and teleprompter server backs down if TJC manufacturers see what comes out before it’s streamed, allowing them to fix errors and graphics faster than ever. This can be done if TJC broadcasts on site or at home. When researchers and writers send updates to teleprompter streams in near real time, CuePoint’s low latency, as low as 250 milliseconds, allows on-screen ability to read updated text as it circulates, making sure the audience receives maximum date information. It also allows them to see their counterpart in the studio, or their opposing numbers in other remote locations, so that they can have genuine interaction with their colleagues in the verbal exchange of the program. Finally, a Dejero WayPoint receiver allows TJC to reconstruct the video transported over multiple IP connections from Dejero transmitters, decode HEVC or stroke, and exit to SDI or MPEG-TS workflows.
In 2020, TJC effectively organized its first live broadcast in the United States, with Shelby Mustang products. They brought six limited edition Mustang cars covered in the studio parking lot and demonstrated their product in a genuine car, which on a generic car hood in a studio.
“The Dejero EnGo transmitters allowed the presenter and the public to have a close-up view of the car’s steering wheel while cleaning. You can’t approach it with RF solutions of choice. I was very inspired by the flexibility of the EnGo,” Willingham says.
The channel also broadcast live from the Tucson Desert in Arizona, where presenters promoted products as they walked among giant cacti. Even in this remote location, connectivity was not a challenge for TJC thanks to Dejero’s Smart Blending technology. In fact, the audience assumed that the fund was a green screen due to the clarity of the broadcast. The presenter and guest had to go through the landscape to discover that it was genuine and could only respond to live text messages in another time zone.
“Before, even in our own set, we had to lay a lot of wires,” Willingham explains. “Now we don’t want to spend a day and a part building a studio, bringing gadgets in place as vision mixers. It’s brilliant.”
The generation also acted as a blanket of convenience for TJC’s Pandemic Covid-19, as it opened the option of moving production from its main studio at Surrey House in London to broadcast from selected locations, adding home, at short notice, if necessary through government policy. The broadcaster plans to make more footage at the scene once the Restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic are eased, with the help of his Dejero team. A live verification of the “home transmission” situation was a great deal of luck and resulted not only in a higher number of sales by the time of day, but also in a fair reaction from TJC consumers who say they are inspired through the channel. technical experience and professionalism.
“I’m very inspired by Dejero, not only with the generation, but also with his incredible reactive help team,” Willingham says. “The company’s philosophy is based on reliable connectivity, and the generation it must offer in terms of business continuity and remote production is fantastic. As one of the leading TV grocery shopping channels in the UK, we broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and our reputation is based on the fact that we have no technical issues The reliability and robustness of Dejero’s workflow really inspired us and allowed us to interact with our audience on another level.
