On May 20, the province’s national historic canals officially began welcoming boaters for the 2022 tourist season. Places that evoke stories, characters, travelers and beautiful waterways await you. Lachine Channel National Historic Site: 20 years laterThis year, Parks Canada celebrates the 20th anniversary of the reopening of this canal, which was closed to shipping for 3 decades. Once used for advertising purposes, it is now used by sailors around the world.
Since 2002, many visitors anchor year after year in this historic canal to enjoy the beauty of its landscapes, the warm rays of the summer sun and the exciting programming that animates this exceptional site located in the center of Montreal.
Introduction to camps. . . Once you return this summer, Parks Canada offers an Urban Learn-to Camp program. The goal of the program is to introduce the camps to others who have little or no experience, to spark their interest in exploring. our national parks and nature. Located on a small island of greenery on the edge of the Canal Lachine National Historic Site, a short walk from the Old Port, the program offers overnight stays with outdoor cooking workshops, games, and activity circuits that will entertain everyone. Water Activities and TrailsThe Lachine Canal waters boating service presented through Le Petit Navire allows you to explore the Canal from the Port of Montreal to the gourmet stop at the Atwater Market. 22Dragons, one of Canada’s largest dragon boat racing clubs, is also operating this summer on the canal. And if you need to see the city from another angle, H2O Aventures offers a wide diversity of boats ranging from electric boats to kayaks and pedal boats.

Quick facts
Link between the city and nature, the Lachine Canal is located in the southwest component of Montreal. Its 13. 5-kilometer urban address stretches between the Old Port and Lake Saint-Louis, a waterway interrupted by five locks. Along its banks, a line urban park with vegetation is covered with remnants of the commercial era of the rise of the canal.
