It’s been a long time since I had a decent antigravity racing game. It’s been 17 years (yes, TEN-SEPT) years since we had an F-Zero game, and Wipeout hasn’t noticed a non-portable edition in 12 years, with the exception of its Omega HD Collection build in 2017. Fortunately, it’s about to be replaced next month, thanks to R8 Games.
On September 17, PACER, a futuristic and “explosive” fighting racing game, arrives on PS4, Xbox One and PC Steam. The game is a non-secular successor to Wipeout; Set in 2075, the PACER World Championship is positioned “through the most damaging and challenging circuits in the world”, with “companies from all over the world” fighting for foreign glory.
The same can be said of its soundtrack. Along with a variety of licensed tracks from Dub FX and Ed Harrison, a new OST has been developed through CoLD SToRAGE, also known as Tim Wright: The Man Who Created Iconic Songs for the original Wipeout series, adding an almost better wipeout score for 2097.
Along with its ancient history and the promise of a brilliant soundtrack, PACER offers:
Steve Iles, senior manufacturer of PACER, believes his team is in a winner: “We are very proud as you prepare for the starting line. Whether you like playing a single-player crusade or inviting all your friends to multiplayer chaos, that’s all there. “
It remains to be noted whether it will face its predecessors or whether the game can be just a long-term esports candidate. But given the scarcity of old anti-gravitational racing for this generation, this is the best chance for PACER to leave a massive footprint. Expect a review from me next month.
