Blizzard hits $1 billion in net bookings in first quarter and Activision revenue soars as Microsoft merger deadline extends, esports division sees layoffs

As with Activision Blizzard’s most recent quarterly monetary reports, today’s Q2 2023 effects were published with nothing more than a press release and an official post on the company’s website. We haven’t received a call where Bobby Kotick has had to answer shareholder questions for some time because of the ongoing merger with Microsoft.

That said, today’s launch is probably one that Kotick would have liked to communicate about in a call. . . well, at least in the maximum categories.

First, profits are skyrocketing. It’s probably not that unexpected given the release of Blizzard’s Diablo IV and some increases in the Call of Duty franchise by Activision. Overall net profit was $2. 21 billion ($1. 64 billion in the current quarter last year), operating money reached $590 million ($198 million in the same quarter last year) and Blizzard reached its first quarter of net reserves of $1 billion. basically thanks to Diablo IV. (We hope the record numbers won’t lead to layoffs as in the past. )

Activision and Microsoft forums also agreed to extend the deadline (initially yesterday) for mergers of the companies following favorable effects on FTC hearings and progress consistent with negotiations with the CMA in the UK. The new deadline to close the deal is Oct. 18, with shareholders receiving a small payout “up to $0. 99 consistent with the stake” to melt the deal and the termination payment rises to $4. 5 billion if the deal is canceled after Sept. 15 for any reason.

Piece by piece, Activision is amassing Call of Duty, with the franchise experiencing a more than 80% year-over-year increase in operating profit. Blizzard’s World of Warcraft subscriber retention in the West “continues to be above the level of the latest trendy expansions. “

Overwatch 2, on the other hand, has noticed a decline in player engagement and “player investment” (i. e. spfinishing), but the company expects it to bounce back when “PvE” content is added.

Speaking of Overwatch, the Overwatch League has its own issues with adjustments to the operating agreement between the company and the league’s teams. If this new deal is not effectively approved by the end of the current season, the team will be paid a $6 million termination fee. Since Overwatch League earnings represent less than 1% of the company’s consolidated net profits, big adjustments are expected soon. Some adjustments may already be underway with The Verge reporting that layoffs in esports departments have already begun.

Overall, since the company stopped publishing game-related reports some time ago, the average monthly user base (MAU) continues to decline. 356 million MAUs in the current quarter is the lowest number in years and only Blizzard reached 26 million MAUs, tied with what it was in 2021 and down from a high of forty-five million in the fourth quarter of 2022, the Overwatch 2 quarter and Dragonflight have spread around the world.

Again, however, MAUs are a misleading number, as they mask games that would possibly work well or possibly not, and probably count users who play ABK titles twice. . . So take the number for what it’s worth.

Finally, Activision reiterated its purpose to “establish a new popular of excellence and transparency in the workplace. “Its May 2023 transparency report provided the breakdown of the company’s hiring and retention practices. Not surprisingly, demographics are still skewed largely in favor of staff identifying as “white” and “male. “The report also analyses staff perceptions of control and the length of investigations when problems arise and the effects of such investigations.

As a costume, that is. Not the type. That wouldn’t make sense.

It presents a new heritage theme called “Human Heritage”, focused on ancient trades and roads.

What if this limit of 10 players were exceeded and extended to hundreds, if not thousands?

Players will embark on an adventure to rebuild the earth alongside friends and strangers alike.

There’s Necromancy Insights, Soul Dye, Parcels From The Dead, Max Party and more.

There will also be free transfers for Melisara/Gene servers, starting July 20.

The game will have automatic combat, automatic search and automatic dungeon for passive play.
