One of the county’s largest employers has announced plans to increase its 500 people.

Defense, Aerospace and Security BAE Systems plans to recruit personnel for its Rochester base over the next five years.

The company plans to rent to more than 200 new people through the end of this year alone.

It will consist of 50 entry-level roles in fiancées, sales, and technical jobs.

These will be complemented by 170 experienced professionals, adding hardware engineers, production and verification technicians, assignment managers, quality control engineers and production positions.

Currently, BAE Systems employs another 1500 people at the site.

The company has a long history in Kent, with its predecessors based in Rochester and Sheppey.

Short Brothers began aircraft production in 1909 and produced over 500 World War II Stirling bombers.

More recently, BAE has developed a number of “world firsts” in Rochester, systems for the Concord, F-35 and Gulfsteam G500 and G60 aircraft.

He introduced the Dreadnought program that brought maritime warfare paintings to Medway for the first time since the closure of the Chatham shipyard.

BAE produces complex defense technologies at its sites in the southeast, from satellites to electronic systems to cyber capabilities.

Overall, the company has 8200 full-time employees and supports a total of 26,500 jobs in its home chain and local communities in the region.

The Oxford Economics report said the company contributed £11 billion to the national economy.

This comes as the Ministry of Defence has announced a further £5 billion for defence spending over the next two years.
