Assabet academics finish WTC metal 11 Memorial in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, MA — Students from the metal fabrication program at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School finished painting the city’s new Sept. 11 memorial, which will be held in front of the new police station.

Academics passed the memorial to Shrewsbury Police on Thursday. The monument, made of metal from the former World Trade Center site, will remain until the new police station opens.

“We can’t thank the students and staff at Assabet High School enough,” Shrewsbury Principal Kevin Anderson said in a Facebook post. The memorial will be a solemn tribute to the victims of the September 11 attacks and will be displayed here so that the rest of Shrewsbury can enjoy the memorial for years to come. “

The city began structuring the new 31,000-square-foot police headquarters along Maple Avenue in September. Officials predicted the new structure could be completed by the fall of 2022.

Professor Neil Mansfield leads Assabet’s steelmaking programme, which teaches academics in various fields, from forging and sheet steel duct paintings to decorative iron paints. Students from Berlin, Hudson, Maynard, Northborough, Southborough, Westborough and Marlborough can attend the school.
