This summer, smartphone brands are driving a number of mid-range phones. This already competitive area will be filled with new hardware in the coming months, as Android brands are looking to offer iconic specs at a price.
But they all lost a ride? And that Apple an advantage.
Take the next OnePlus North. When I spoke to Tuomas Lampen, The European Strategy Director at OnePlus, it became clear that the north’s purpose is to bring the flagship to the mid-range, to offer the same features and specifications as OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Shenzhen-based company showcased a number of features prior to launch, adding the addition of a wide-angle selfie camera. The emphasis is on the reproduction of the length and specifications of star products.
What about the Moto G 5G? Motorola relies heavily on a 6.7 inch 90Hz demonstration along with 5000mAh battery and 5G support connectivity. Again, you have a dual camera for selfies, and Motorola looks a lot at the specs with the similarity to the Moto Edge more.
Then the Huawei P40 Lite. Apart from the absence of Google’s mobile services, it has 5G connectivity, a giant 6.4-inch display with a clock speed of 2310 x 1080 pixels, the Kirin 810 on-chip formula and a four-lens camera on the back. This is a lot of hardware that compares to giantr phones in the P40 family.
A look at the mid-range and two things become clear. The first is that brands have to play the game is the bingo of technical cards. Do all phones have features that compete with star products? Will consumers faint at the amount of food packaged inside the material? Do all phones say “I’m a star product, look what I can do”?
All the strengths of technology, 5G connectivity, quick update screens, multitude of cameras, 5000mAh battery, etc., require space. And this area means making giant phones that are difficult to use with one hand, even for those with generously sized hands.
Is that a valid technique at the flagship level? Of course it is. What about the mid-range? Since each and every Android manufacturer takes the technique, it must be said that there is a consensus.
Apple opposes this thought. This year, Tim Cook and his team returned with a new phone. The iPhone SE (2020) debuted in April.
In terms of performance, Apple has included the same A13 chip as the existing flagship circle of iPhone 11 relatives. 3 MB of RAM can be in the stingy aspect (which is a type of Apple tradition) and at 1334-750 pixels, the screen would possibly not win any prizes.
And what did the launch end?
“Apple today announced the second-generation iPhone SE, a rugged new iPhone with a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, combined with Touch ID for cutting-edge security. The iPhone SE features a compact design, reinvented from the inside and is the ultimate affordable iPhone.”
Yes, the name serves as, the killer serves as it makes the SE stand out, it’s there. Size, or at least its absence.
It’s hard to find a mid-range phone that fits comfortably at hand while providing a smooth user interface and exciting joy in Android space. Traditional brands say that being sticky in the midrange is about retrieving all the big numbers of the flagship datasheets at a lower price. And that means giant screens that require both hands for any more sensitive screen operation.
Don’t understand me Array, there’s nothing about that. But length is rarely everything, and there is a contingent of voices that needs a small, sturdy phone at an affordable price. There’s only one option.
For once, I can end up with the word “Think Differently” without a trace of irony. The iPhone SE, a little warrior in a giant box, is and triumphs.
