The next iPhones, the iPhone 16 series, are expected to come with models with an all-new battery design. This is due to several reasons and the new report provides hope to all of us who need to keep our iPhones for longer.
The most recent report echoes earlier rumors that predicted an external one for the battery case, replacing the existing sheet with a steel one, according to The Information.
This may simply mean that the next phone will have greater thermal management and thus avoid the overheating controversy that persisted on the iPhone 16 at launch and was temporarily kept constant thanks to a software update.
But it also brings with it some other vital change: it would mean that it would be much less difficult to upgrade the battery. Currently, converting the battery is tedious and requires thoroughly disposing of the adhesive strips with tweezers, which becomes more useless if the strip breaks when removed, requiring heat or solvent to complete the operation. Replacing the battery is also a frustrating procedure.
Thanks to the new battery with metal housing and the so-called electrically induced adhesive peeling technology, the battery can be more easily detached from the chassis by applying low electrical voltage.
A simpler, and probably cheaper, battery replacement procedure means that users may choose to keep their iPhone longer with a new battery than buying a new phone.
It is believed that the new battery will be discovered in some iPhone 16 models, but not all, in the hope that all models of the iPhone 17 diversity released in 2025 will see the new design.
Another aspect of this story is the influence of the EU, which in certain cases requires an easy-to-use battery change. If the phone doesn’t reach 83% of its capacity after 500 full charges, or 80% after 1,000 full charges, then the phone needs more to make it easier to replace. While all of lacheck’s iPhone 15 models meet the 1. 00 fee, older phones do not.
The arrival of a new generation of batteries like this is a message for Apple, as it seems that, after all, iPhones can be more durable.
