While several Apple stores in the U. S. Apple retail manager Deirdre O’Brien aims to thwart employee efforts through an anti-union video that was sent to retail stores today.
Bloomberg shared the video’s main points, with O’Brien telling workers that unionization can slow progress on it and can lead to a bitter relationship between Apple and its workers.
“It’s your right to register with a union, and it’s also your right not to register with a union,” O’Brien said in the video. He said workers deserve to “consult a wide diversity of other people and sources. “to fully perceive what it would mean to “work at Apple under a collective bargaining agreement. “
O’Brien said hard work organizations don’t understand how Apple works and would likely not be engaged with workers like Apple is.
“We have dating based on an open, collaborative and direct engagement, which I think I could fundamentally replace if a store were represented through a union as a component of a collective bargaining agreement,” he said. “And I’m worried about what would happen. ” I mean putting some other organization in the middle of our appointments. An organization that doesn’t have a deep understanding of Apple or our company, and most importantly, one that doesn’t take into account our commitment to you. “
He explained that putting into effect new raises, bonuses and other benefits may take longer in a union situation, referring to the bonuses that were given to retail workers during the pandemic. A union could potentially restrict Apple’s ability to implement “immediate and widespread changes” and may simply “make it harder for [Apple] to act temporarily to fix the problems” the workers note.
Apple’s outlets in Washington state, New York, Maryland and Atlanta are organizing and taking steps toward unionization. Employees have a higher salary, more vacations, better retirement features, and other benefits.
