Taking a look at this week’s Apple news and headlines, the iPhone 17 Air leak, iPhone SE camera changes, iOS 18. 2 and Apple Intelligence, Tim Cook interviews, Apple’s 5G modem plans, the iPad Mini wait and the Apple Vision Pro Finish Award of the Year.
Apple Loop is here to remind you of some of the many discussions surrounding Apple over the past seven days. You can read my weekly roundup of Android news here on Forbes.
2025 should see two exciting iPhones that break out of the standard three models. Early in the year, we expect the iPhone SE to debut in the mid-range market, but the September launch should see a more fashionable arrival. The presumptively named iPhone Air will see Apple join the trend of super-thin phones. That means a serious trimming of the hardware and Apple’s decide the camera will be the main loss as it moves to a single lens:
“This happens to be the final point of promotion, a design detail that stands out from all the other features, not least because it’s designed to have a single camera, as opposed to the two lenses on the old iPhone and the three on the Pro models. “
(Forbes).
Camera chasing may simply be the theme of 2025; In the case of the iPhone SE, Apple goes in the opposite direction. While the single lens remains, the specs for that lens are improving:
“The rear camera will see a significant improvement over the 2022 iPhone SE, increasing from 12 megapixels to 48 megapixels. Along with Apple’s software advancements in symbol processing, smoother information capture through the lens deserves a symbol quality, low and smooth performance and virtual zoom The selfie camera will also see the pixel count increase from 7 megapixels to 12 megapixels.

This week iOS 18. 2 was released. This is a critical release because it brings ChatGPT to the strangely backnymized Apple Intelligence. This is rarely the only addition to iOS; He wouldn’t be criticized if he missed the other features.
“Beyond Apple Intelligence, and therefore available to all iOS 18-capable iPhones are features including improvements to Photos, Voice Memos that now let you add vocals over existing audio, natural language search in apps like Apple Music and Sudoku puzzles in Apple News for News+ subscribers.”
(Forbes).
Nonetheless, iOS 18. 2 is a big moment for Apple Intelligence; This is the first time the service has been offered outside of the United States. One of those territories is the United Kingdom, and Tim Cook visited the country to talk about the impact of iOS. The Forbes contributor was there with an exclusive interview:
“In the future, more and more features will be added and will continue to improve. Artificial intelligence is a horizontal generation in the sense that it will affect everything in your life over time. It will replace everything, because it will be like having an assistant to prepare things that would have taken you more time to do, so that you can dedicate more time, pull the thread of your interest or create or stick to your passion.

Apple’s 2025 will also have another seismic change, and that’s the first 5G modem designed by Apple. This should cut them loose from Qualcomm’s communications hardware and offer more precise control over its own hardware. The f first consumers who will be testing the hardware in anger, will be those who buy the iPhone SE, but they won’t be the last:
“It’s worth noting that Apple is not committing to the next generation in its main product lines, but rather sticking to cheaper, easier-to-use hardware for the initial rollout phase. And as Gurman Array reports after the iPhone and the iPad, Apple will convert to the Mac platform with its new love for its local modems, and the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro deserve to be first in line.
(Forbes).
Apple’s refresh rate on the iPad Mini is not as fast as the larger and more expensive tablets, and those looking for a new smaller tablet may have to wait for some time. Yet for those who wait, there is good news coming:
“According to Omdia’s most recent long-term OLED display adoption forecast, the iPad mini will feature the generation in 2026 or 2027, followed by the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air in 2027-2028. These devices will use single-stack 60Hz OLED panels.

Popular Science has published its annual awards “. . . of the year”, and Apple will be pleased to see the Apple Vision Pro earbuds included as “Innovation of the Year”:
“Although AR headsets have been around before, this one is getting our award because of its potential. It’s part of Apple’s overall hardware plan. The new iPhone cameras have a quick design for filming space videos intended to be streamed in AR. Family The apps also offer improved experiences on headphone components. . . we’re curious to see what Apple does next, as the value of an experience like this could be a real game-changer.
