Android 14 QPR2 launches with Pixel March update

Google is rolling out the QPR2 Solid Update for Android 14 with the March 2024 security patch for the newest Pixel devices: 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Tablet, Fold, 8, and 8 Pro.

The Bluetooth quick settings tile can now be expanded to display a list of devices (up to three). In addition to noting the prestige (battery) of what has been recently paired, check out other “saved” accessories with the ability to transfer temporarily. This was a feature from previous versions of Android that Google, regardless, is bringing back.

Continuing with the audio front, Android 14 QPR2 features an updated pixel volume slider with a container instead of just a thin line.

When recording or casting screen, you now have a “single app” option for the entire screen. However, you lose the ability to display the keys. Another update to QS Tile is the addition of a “Wi-Fi Sharing” shortcut.

Google has also updated the microphone and camera privacy cues with a “Close this app” shortcut. To access it, open Quick Settings and tap on the green tablet in the most sensitive right corner.

The Pixel’s time lock screen clock has also been updated to obviously indicate when an alarm or Do Not Disturb (DND) is active.

On the Pixel tablet and other large-screen devices, there’s a modified taskbar that shows how you can now search for apps when the grid stops multitasking.

In the Pixel Launcher grid, app names can now take up two rows and be truncated.

On the back of the app information, Android now indicates the package call after the edit number, while the Force Stop icon has been updated.

When you go to System > Settings > Software Updates (instead of System), you’ll be taken to a more user-friendly “Your Pixel is up to date” screen that links to the “Manage apps and devices” page in the Play Store. On the Material You page, the on/off controls in the Settings app have been updated to the new, narrower style.

This update will roll out worldwide starting today, but may not be available in the U. S. U. S. through March 11.
