Amazon has announced that it will open a new committed store in Ireland, Amazon. ie, in 2025.
Currently, most Irish consumers have to use Amazon’s sites founded in the UK or Europe, and the store says the new online page will eliminate customs duties and speed up delivery times for consumers.
In 2022, Amazon opened a new warehouse and hub in Dublin that employs 500 people. At the time, the online retail giant said the facility would be a springboard for the launch of an Ireland-specific Amazon website.
The company currently employs around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin and Drogheda, with Amazon adding that the new development will create more jobs and that details will be announced in the coming months.
More than 1,000 Irish small and medium-sized businesses already sell on Amazon, the retailer said, and those SMEs will generate more than €150 million in export sales in 2022.
Commenting on the announcement, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke TD said: “I’m very pleased to see Amazon continue to grow its presence in Ireland. “
“The launch of an Irish store will delight the visitor and provide a vital platform for Irish SMEs to expand their online presence and grow their businesses. This announcement is a significant reaffirmation of Amazon’s commitment to Ireland.
“Our groups across the country are very excited about the next bankruptcy in our history and look forward to delivering our new Irish store to our consumers in 2025,” said Darragh Kelly, general manager of Ireland customer processing at Amazon.
