Amazon switches to video with ‘Prime Gaming’

Amazon Prime is stepping up its business in the area of video game subscription: on Monday, it delivered more than 150 million Prime members to video games.

Previously, members had to link their Amazon account to one on Twitch, a live stream also owned by Amazon.

In addition to optimization for Prime members, Amazon has also renamed the game service “Twitch Prime” to “Prime Gaming”.

Prime Gaming includes a loose Twitch channel subscription, loose loot in games, and more than five loose PC games per month. Prime Gaming is included in broader Amazon Prime subscriptions. In Australia, Amazon offers a flexible 30-day trial. After that, it costs A$6.99 according to the month.

The prime gaming redesign is one of many projects Amazon has taken in the gaming box in recent years. In 2014, Amazon acquired Twitch, which is primarily used to stream games.

Amazon has also invested more in its game progression business, Amazon Games, which got off to a tough start with “Crucible” this year.

The Verge reported that Amazon plans to offer cloud games later this year or in 2021.
