Online retailer Amazon is ending its “Try Before You Buy” service, which allows its prime customers to try out a half-dozen apparel items at a time for a week before deciding which ones they want to keep.

The e-commerce giant announced on its account that the program will end on January 31.

When asked about the reason behind the decision, an Amazon spokesperson told FOX Business the company heard from customers that they prefer to shop from Amazon’s broader selection of clothing and accessories, which offers more choice and faster delivery speeds compared to the narrower selection and longer delivery times for “Try Before You Buy” items.

“As try-before-you-buy only fits a limited number of pieces and consumers increasingly employ our new AI-powered features such as virtual try-ons, traditional length recommendations, featured reviews, and advanced length charts to “Make sure they find the right one for you, we will phase out the Try Before You Buy option starting January 31, 2025,” the spokesperson said in a statement about the move.

“Of course, consumers will continue to enjoy fast and flexible deliveries, with easy and flexible returns on our entire clothing range,” they added.

Some stores compare the “Try It Before You Buy” program to private styles like Stitch Fix. The scenario is similar in that consumers can order items, pay only for what they keep, and return the rest.

However, Amazon does not offer private tastes with its program: consumers can buy the clothing, jewelry, shoes and accessories they need from a wide variety of items.
