The new Amazon Fire 7 (2022) brings a larger processor, more memory, and longer battery life to Amazon’s entry-level Array. The $60 will also be the first to ship with Fire OS 8 when the new Fire 7 starts shipping on June 29, 2022.
Fire OS is the Android-based operating formula Amazon uses for its Fire tablets and Fire TV devices, and Edition 8 of the operating formula deserves to be a pretty big update. . . although it is not. transparent if users will notice a big difference.
This is because many adjustments will be the hood. Instead of the main UI settings, many updates refer to privacy and security settings.
While the Fire OS 7 software that runs on Amazon’s older tablets is on Android 9, Fire OS 8 is on Android 11 and includes, among other things:
All of these tweaks are the result of switching from Android 9 to Android 11, but Amazon notes that not all of Android 11’s features are available on Fire OS 8. For example, file-based encryption is not yet supported on Fire OS.
