Amazon faces supermarkets with ‘free’ home delivery

Supermarkets faced a new challenge after online giant Amazon announced that Prime consumers can now receive their grocery store for free.

Corporate shoppers of 1.17 billion pounds can now shop directly on their door without leaving their couch with the new service.

It replaces the old formula in which Prime members, who already had to pay 7.99 euros, had to pay 2.99 euros more for a meal order.

Now, while consumers in London and south-east (Surrey, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire) spend more than 40 euros on new orders, their groceries will be delivered free of charge.

Amazon Fresh is an Amazon Prime benefit that can be earned at no additional charge for existing Prime subscribers.

Senior members in approximately three hundred Greater And South East postcodes (including London, Surrey, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire) can make their weekly purchase on Amazon Fresh, with local products, brands and crafts, included in the main subscription cost.

Amazon stated that delivery in two-hour windows is now loose for orders over $40 and that the minimum order price had been reduced from $40 to £15.

Stores of $40 will have to pay a delivery payment of £3.99.

Customers will be able to access between 12,000 and 15,000 online products, adding products from stores and brands such as Booths, Morrisons, Whole Foods Market, Pepsi, Danone, Arla, Warburtons and Britvic.

Amazon Fresh consumers will also be presented with a variety of thousands of products from local producers, adding Gail’s Artisan Bakery, C.Lidgate and Paxton-Whitfield.
