CHANNAHON, IL – Less than a year after the opening, Amazon’s 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Channahon opened its doors. Amazon said it welcomed new workers to the construction of Bradley Road on Sunday, marking its first day of operation. After a morning of learning and laughing activities, the affiliates won the first item of the new construction: a shark line of vacuum cleaners Shark Rocket, the corporation reported.
“This is an exciting day as we officially open our doors to our new distribution center in Channahon,” Nick Lamb, director of Amazon’s Channahon site, said in a press release. “We have on-board staff and are excited to offer top-notch jobs, not just comprehensive benefits. We look forward to being part of the Channahon community.”
Amazon also announced a $10,000 donation to Northern Illinois Food Bank, which owns a warehouse in Joliet on Larkin Avenue.
“The Northern Illinois Food Bank thanks Amazon for looking concerned about our neighbors in need as the company celebrates the opening of its Channahon distribution center,” said Julie Yurko, president and ceo of the Northern Illinois Food Bank. “Amazon’s donation will help provide nutritious food to our neighbors. The Food Bank’s project to resolve famine in northern Illinois is vital every day, and especially now, as many others in our communities find their lives disrupted by the demanding economic situations of COVID-19. “
Amazon said its new means of distribution has lately employed more than 1,000 full-time affiliates who will pack and ship items, add sports equipment, garden furniture, fishing rods, puppy food, bicycles, and family items.
In addition to Amazon’s $15 hour minimum starting wage, the company provides full-time workers with comprehensive benefits, adding comprehensive health, visual and dental insurance, as well as 401 (k) insurance with 50% from day one. By comparison, those salaries are more consistent with the state minimum wage of $10 consistent with the hour.
The company offers up to 20 weeks of paid maternity and paternity leave and cutting-edge benefits such as shared leave and the return ramp, which will offer new parents some flexibility with their developing family. Amazon will also be offering workers cutting-edge systems like Career Choice, where they will pay up to 95% of tuition for courses similar to areas in demand, whether or not they are the skills applicable to a career on Amazon. Since the program’s inception, more than 25,000 international workers have conducted studies in game design and visual communications, nursing, computer programming and radiology, among others.

Channahon also has a location at the moment on Amazon that recently opened on Exchange Boulevard and bluff Road for Interstate 55. This location is across from Love’s Travel Stop with 3 restaurants being built recently.
