One of Stratford’s most overlooked buildings appears to be ready for an external restoration.
The deserted BHS store on Bridge Street, which has been a horror for the past six years since it closed to the public, wants to be repainted and repaired to the general view of the indexed building, which has cast a dark shadow over shoppers. visitors to the city.
A classified building permit application is lately with Stratford District Council and paintings on the exterior of construction are expected to begin in the coming weeks, the proposal including “maintenance and repair, adding stucco repair, window replacement and decoration”.
The request for paintings was made through Beyond Retail Property Fund Ltd. Meanwhile, the paintings are expected to complete the construction of a 170-room hotel in the fall.
As previously reported via the Herald, plans to convert the site were approved in January 2020, but once the coronavirus pandemic hit, the task suffered setbacks over time.
