Windows 11 has already replaced a lot since the edition we reviewed in October, and Microsoft has a steady stream of redesigned app updates, bug fixes, and UI improvements.
But the company’s large annual Windows updates are still important. This is where Microsoft makes the most important tweaks to the look and feel of Windows 11 and the features found under the hood. This week, rumors suggested that Microsoft is finishing painting what will eventually launch as Windows 11 edition 22H2, the first annual update of the operating system. This build, which will ultimately be available on the Windows Insider Beta channel as build number 22621. 1, will serve as the basis for the next year of Windows updates.
We publish new editions of Windows Insider frequently, depending on the relevance of the changes. But to prevent you from reviewing months of articles, we’ve rounded up all the maximum significant differences between the existing public edition of Windows 11 21H2 (for the record, 22000. 675) and the latest beta edition of version 22H2.
First, a word of warning: Microsoft has changed the way it updates Windows over the past year. The company now releases many app updates and UI changes when they’re in condition rather than waiting for a first annual OS update, as it would have done inside. This more flexible timeline has allowed Microsoft to fix some of the early shortcomings of Windows 11, adding features and apps that were missing from the taskbar that hadn’t yet been updated with the new look.

The Home edition of Windows 11 (and some of the later versions of Windows 10) required a web connection and a connection to a Microsoft account setup, pushing users to integrate deeper into the Microsoft ecosystem. This procedure has some benefits, as it adds an automated local disk. encryption and backup of the recovery key, passwordless sign-in, quick access to Microsoft Store apps and installations, such as Microsoft 365 and PC Game Pass, and knowledge synchronization for apps like OneDrive and Edge. But if you don’t use those items, you need to log in later, or prefer to stick to an outdated smart local account, there’s no undeniable workaround, other than logging out or creating a new local account once you arrive at the office.
This was not the case with the Pro editions of Windows, which still allowed you to create a local account if you didn’t connect to the Internet installation. But it ends with the 22H2 edition of Windows 11, which requires a Microsoft account, regardless of the edition of the operating formula you’re using. (The settings also push you to subscribe to PC Game Pass in addition to Microsoft 365, which I think is new to this edition of Windows, but has possibly been added more recently. )
The only officially authorized exception to this policy is if you decide to set the “paintings or school” option instead of the “non-public use” option. This allows you to sign in with your painting or school Microsoft account, if you have one. , rather than a non-public account. But if you just want to create a local account or want to set up a PC without an internet connection, there’s no easy way to do it.
This policy applies only to new installations of Windows and will not do so if you upgrade an already configured PC.
