The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) and an IIT-Madras start-up have developed modular, portable and easy-to-configure hospital infrastructures on Wednesday, a Department of Science and Technology said Wednesday.
The portable infrastructure, “MediCAB”, consists of 4 areas: a medical room, an isolation room, a medical room/room and an intensive care unit with two single beds.
“It can be transported and installed seamlessly in any geographic location and can be mounted in just two hours with the help of 4 people,” he said.
“Folding, portable and prefabricated hospitals that are easy to meet temporarily provide a convincing solution in the event of a pandemic, crisis and other unforeseen occasions,” TSD Secretary Ashutosh Sharma said.
It evolved through SCTIMST, based in Thiruvananthapuram, an institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), in collaboration with Modulus Housing, a startup incubated through IIT-Madras.
It uses a decentralized system to detect, manage and treat COVID-19 patients in local communities through portable microstructures.
So far, a 30-bed hospital has been established in Chengalpet, Chennai, at a cost of 34 lakh rupees. Another 12-bed hospital has been established in a number one fitness care facility in Varadoor, Waynad district, Kerala, according to the statement.
MediCAB cabins are well sealed and dust-tight. It has built-in electrical circuits, which are just plug-and-play. MediCAB can cope with bad weather and heavy rains, he said.
It comes with modular generation prefabrication and a telescopic frame that style will be reduced to one-fifth of its original size, making it suitable for garage and transportation.
These laptops come in 3 sizes (200, 400 and 800 feet) and can be installed in a parking lot or on the terrace of a hospital.
