A 52-year-old man dies in a Buxton house fire

BUXTON – A two-alarm fireplace in a cell home at 23 Mary Jane Road around 5 a.m. on Sunday claimed the lives of a 52-year-old man.

Authorities said Arthur C. Follis died as a result of smoke inhalation. His body was discovered in a room, Buxton Fire Chief Nathan Schools said Monday.

The “most likely” cause of insufficient removal of smoking equipment in the chimney, schools, and alcohol involved said.

“The message here is that there’s alcohol at stake,” he says.

The chimney was considered accidental, he said.

Buxton city secretary John Myers stated that the owner assessed Paul M. Frederick on the site.

Two men occupied the caravan, to the schools.

In a chimney that morning at the residence, another guy was taken to the hospital.

Schools said that after firefighters extinguished the first fire, they and the police begged Follis not to return to the cell home. Follis had agreed to remain under construction on the property.

Firefighters from various communities, Gorham, Hollis, Scarborough and Standish, attended the site.
