Huawei has gone through a torrid period, the most recent number of recent occasions was the British government’s announcement that Huawei’s device would no longer be allowed in the country’s 5G network infrastructure.
What is there will be eliminated in the coming years, until the end of 2027, and new Huawei devices will not be available to purchase after the end of this year. An earlier ban through Huawei on the most sensitive central parts of the 5G network remains in effect. But while this news was heard everywhere, other parts of the story were less audible. If you have a smartphone, tablet, laptop, smartwatch or logo speaker, are you worried?
In short, no.
July 24 update: As if it turned out that infrastructure resolution doesn’t mean Huawei smartphones or other devices are about to disappear or are less advanced, Huawei has just announced a number of partnerships with other brands. Huawei recently introduced a sensational smart speaker developed in collaboration with Devialet.
The newly announced collaborations are just badge creation operations: this Huawei smartphone is crucial. So there is a partnership with the main baggage brand, Samsonite. Tap Smart Lock on Samsonite instances compatible with a Huawei smartphone and it locks automatically.
The cleaning company Kurcher refers to the Huawei HiLink Kurcher water scrubber. Simply, such a long call can make you thirsty, but the Huawei AI Life app on a Huawei smartphone can reveal the water quality and lifespan of the water purifier filter.
That same app can now be used to remotely control the Joyoung Intelligent Thermostatic Electric Kettle, and it can also monitor how the kettle’s doing. Plus, a range of lighting solutions from Opple can now be controlled by the same Huawei AI Life app on a Huawei smartphone.
There are more collaborations than these, but the point of it all is that Huawei says with defiance that it is determined to see its participation in British life and that of other countries grow rather than diminish.
This is just the latest news from a company that is devoting massive resources to adding new apps to Huawei’s app gallery, reducing the use of Google Play Store apps.
In other words, Huawei’s behind-the-scenes 5G hardware is lightened, Huawei makes sure your phone and other devices stay in the middle of British life.
The British National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a government department which is the country’s lead technical authority on cyber security, has helpfully distilled its advice into an online post (read it here).
He said: “NCSC’s paintings on this issue only take into account Huawei’s devices from UK telecommunications network paints. This does not directly affect the generation of Huawei you use at home, such as smartphones, laptops and tablets. However, the May 2020 U.S. announcement. have additional implications for the use of the Huawei generation, which you may need to consider.”
The online recommendation is about both informing businesses and individuals, but continues to explicitly communicate about phones and tablets:
“Existing Huawei devices deserve not to be affected: all your programs deserve to keep running, and your phone/laptop/tablet deserve to continue getting security updates during their overall lifespan. But from now on, new Huawei devices will no longer be able to use Google apps or services. for example: Play Store, Maps, YouTube or Google Assistant. »
When Huawei customers contacted the company on Twitter, Huawei replied: “Hello, the ad does not include products from our customers. We will continue to provide the most productive generation to our millions of customers in the UK and around the world, and we have a cutting cutting cutting cutting-edge roadmap for long-term products that we are excited to offer in the UK in the short or long term.”
It’s quite transparent and it’s not really surprising. Somehow, Huawei operates as a two-half company, one that works on stage, powering cellular and broadband networks, and the other that manufactures products for customers.
For customers’ products, there are no surprises on the way. Phones and tablets that work with Google’s cell phone (GMS), such as Gmail and play store, will continue to work and be generally updated. And those devices, such as the newest flagship product, the Huawei P40 Pro Plus, which features Android’s open source and Huawei’s own app store, the App Gallery, will also be supported during, as the NCSC says, the overall life of the product.
So do you deserve me to buy Huawei phones or tablets now?
Well, you want to think about what pieces like Play Store or Google Maps look like for you. If you think you may not be satisfied with Here WeGo Maps, a high-performance option in my opinion, or the full diversity of Android apps, you may prefer to think about the new updated P30 Pro smartphone, for example, that comes with GMS.
For many, the absence of certain programs is less important, or compensates with the exceptional quality and design of their smartphones, for example, with their splendid cameras. In this case, the P40 series would possibly be suitable and, like other phones, have not changed with the latest developments.
