The so-called “Kodi” was once synonymous with piracy, thanks to other people who bought “Kodi boxes” from unreliable guys in the pub and used them to see things they hadn’t paid for.
Now, however, it turns out that Internet hackers have become bored with multimedia playback software and accompanying hardware, according to a TorrentFreak report.
Citing Google Trends search knowledge, TorrentFreak says interest in Kodi has declined dramatically since its peak in 2017. As you can see, searches have decreased:
It’s all over the world, the British list is no different:
While searches do often correlate with interest in something, we’re not entirely convinced this data shows that no one cares about Kodi anymore. Lots of the people who originally searched in 2017 will have their Kodi boxes now, and unless they need tech support or somesuch, won’t have had to Google it again. That doesn’t mean those boxes aren’t being used.
However, it is transparent that the other people new to the maximum component stopped reaching the Kodi market. Perhaps because it’s not so complicated to get content legally in those days, with a billion streaming services, it’s not worth learning how to hack and pay for something to hack into. Much of the internet piracy in the UK was due to the fact that there was no legal way to stream content, basically from the US, even if it was throwing cash at the other people who created it.
That has largely replaced now, which is probably good news for Kodi, who, unsurprisingly, did not like the hacker arrangement with its perfectly valid multimedia software. [TorrentFreak]
